Choosing a Good-Fit book

Picture
How Do I Choose a Book?
Some parents have requested information about how to choose good fit books for their child/ren.  The five finger rule is always a good gauge when determining a successful book for your child.  If he/she misses five words on the first page of the book, likely it is NOT a good fit for him/her.  Below are some sites that will level books.  If you do not know your child's "reading level" please contact me and I will inform you of his/her current independent reading level.

Scholastic will level books according to DRA, Lexile, and Guided Reading levels.  Click on the image to go there.

Here is another good site for finding leveled books according to Lexile Levels.  Remember, your child may be reading at a different "grade level" than he/she is actually in.

MAP Testing
As you now know, your child partakes in a computerized literacy and math assessment three times per year.  Below you will find some parent information to understand these assessments.  As well, I provided some extra links for practice.
