All Day, Every Day!
Children, especially in the younger grades, need to be explicitly taught how to be active readers. When I moved from Kindergarten to Grade 1, I learned to ramp up the following active reading engagement from Ms. Ward. We taught 1/2 together and the first graders took off in their reading because of this!
Every day the children had a morning work passage that was relevant to some content being taught to include social studies, science, literary or math content.
