AOW

1.  Read the AOW:  Ray Charles
2.  Click the video at the bottom to listen to one of his phenomenal titles!
3.  Reread AOW and begin finding evidence to support your TDA thesis.  Highlight your evidence and annotate what the quote is supporting.  
4.  Begin your TDA when you have TWO solid pieces of evidence.  
TDA prompt:  Ray Charles experienced many hardships throughout his lifetime.  Analyze the text and explain how Ray Charles did not allow these hardships to hinder his success.  Use evidence from the text to support your response.

TDA REQUIREMENTS:  Do NOT use the word "I"!  Write the essay in 3rd person!

PARAGRAPH ONE, INTRODUCTION:  
  • Summarize the story/article in a few sentences to give the reader some background knowledge.
  • Clearly state your thesis (response to the prompt)
  • Write one or two sentences to give the reader the 'gist' of your reasoning.

  • Write a topic sentence 
  • "Cite" evidence from the text, or paraphrase (in your own words) evidence that supports your topic sentence and overall thesis.
  • Explain, elaborate on, or give examples to show that your analysis is valid (true).​

  • Write a topic sentence 
  • "Cite" evidence from the text, or paraphrase (in your own words) evidence that supports your topic sentence and overall thesis.
  • Explain, elaborate on, or give examples to show that your analysis is valid (true).

PARAGRAPH FOUR, CONCLUSION:

  • Clearly restate your thesis (response to the prompt)
  • Recap your analysis (reasoning).
  • Clinch the essay with an example of how all people could learn from Ray Charles' experiences and apply his perseverance in their own lives.
