Poetry

We read The Important Book in the beginning year.  You started an Important Thing writing piece, but we did not publish the writing.  We are going to re-brainstorm, write creatively, and publish The Important Thing About _____ (you).  
1.  Brainstorm on an EBLI board all the words and phrases that describe you as a person.  What you:
  • look like
  • things you enjoy
  • your family
  • friends
  • character traits (benevolent, persnickety, etc.)
2.  Use the Guide to help you write your rough draft.  You must:
  • Start and end with The important thing....
  • Have at least one Metaphor & Simile.
  • A minimum of 10 descriptive sentences.  
  • Every sentence begins with a capital. 
  • Every sentence ends with punctuation. 
  • You will receive $20 for every vibrant vocabulary word or idiom that you use appropriately. 

On Wednesday, you will be permitted to work on your Micrography Art project about you!

Story Works

1.  Get the Story Times newspaper.  Read the story, "The Frog and the Condor".  
2.  EBLI the two words written in BOLD:     voracious                    
3.  Answer the questions on the back of the paper.    

4.  Use an EBLI board to summarize the story in 15 words or less.  Get checked!  Transfer your summary in your StoryWorks booklet.  

Writing

TDA on page 16 in your RNB:  

You will need to use "The Julian Chapter," last week's AOW:  "The Holocaust," and the book, The Butterfly to answer the following prompt:

​The Holocaust devastated the lives of millions of people.  Use evidence from the texts to support this claim.  

  • You must complete a FIVE paragraph text dependent analysis to support your answer to this prompt.  
  • Remember to include a Hook, Thesis, and THREE main points in your introduction. 
  • Each body paragraph should have a transition, topic sentence (answer), cited evidence, and an explanation.  ACE
  • Your concluding paragraph should restated your Thesis, THREE main points, and end with a clincher!

AOW

1.  Read and discuss the article, "War Stories."  You MUST read carefully!  This is an in-depth reading piece that will take time.  Answer the questions thoroughly.  
2.  Answer the questions using the THREE interviews in the article.
